Hexa-X-II Project Publishes Deliverable D1.3 on Environmental and social view on 6G

Hexa-X-II Project Publishes Deliverable D1.3 on Environmental and social view on 6G

The Hexa-X-II Project has released its newest research deliverable, D1.3, advancing the field of 6G technology. Originating from Work Package 1 (WP1). This report presents an analysis of the obstacles and uncertainties in achieving environmental, social, and economic sustainability for 6G and for 6G-supported solutions and how these can be mitigated.

Develop an Understanding of Society’s Expectations and Needs Regarding Networks

D1.3 starts from the analysis of surveys related to past and ongoing concerns of the society as well as to desired features and needs of the society from advanced communication services. Social engagement approach is discussed as a way to better involve people in the process of development from the earliest stages by listening to their needs vs. social acceptance that in some cases may imply that technology advances are prioritized over peoples’ needs, looking afterwards for reasons that will drive people to want and use the technology.

Preparedness for 6G Environmental, Social and Economic Sustainability

D1.3 aims to set the grounds for identifying and raising awareness of the challenges and the risks that 6G networks, and 6G-supported solutions, may come across.

When necessary, the design of mitigation strategies (in technical and policies/practices level) will increase preparedness and strengthen the 6G blueprint. This will empower the positive impact of 6G solutions and services while limiting unwanted and unexpected effects.

Business models for 6G ecosystem, Business Ecosystem and Key Stakeholders

The business models of “Cooperating Mobile Robots”, “Network Assisted Mobility” and “Human Centric Services” representative Use cases are analysed within D1.3. Business Ecosystem and the list of the identified key stakeholders are also complemented with the entities that could apply the mitigation strategies and strengthen 6G networks against environmental, social and economic risks. For a more detailed exploration, please read the full deliverable and check out the accompanying presentation.
