In Europe’s race for 6G, the message matters

Europe’s flagship 6G project, Hexa-X-II, has been working on technical research and building the conversation. A newly published report sheds light on that effort and explains why communication may prove as critical as any core technology.

The project’s Deliverable D7.6, released on 30 June 2025, details how Hexa-X-II set out to engage researchers, companies, policymakers, and the public around the emerging vision for 6G. Its goal was to foster alignment across Europe’s fragmented research landscape and ensure that ideas and findings reach beyond the project itself.

“We need common ground, early,” said Mauro Boldi, Hexa-X-II leader in Impact Creation, leading the Work Package 7 effort. “6G will define how AI, cloud, and physical systems interact across industries. Europe can lead, but only if we speak the same language.”

Building that shared language was a key part of the project’s strategy. During its 2.5-year duration, the project’s website drew over 19,000 visits. It published more than 35 news articles and grew a newsletter list to over 300 readers, surpassing initial goals.

On LinkedIn, the project’s community expanded from an initial 100 to nearly 1,500 followers—a good result for a project in the deep-tech B2B field. Across LinkedIn, X, and YouTube, the project generated over 270,000 content impressions, with an unusually high 10% engagement rate.

Why does this matter? Because 6G remains at an early stage. No common standard exists yet. Japan, China, South Korea, India, the US, and Europe are all developing parallel visions. Communication and collaboration now help prevent a fractured global landscape in the 2030s.

Outreach is part of building trust and interoperability, and Hexa-X-II has exceeded its goals many times over. The full D7.6 report is available at hexa-x-ii.eu.
