The SNS Stream B/D Projects Workshop on KPIs and KVIs was held on May 16th. The webinar brought together a diverse group of experts and project representatives to discuss the critical performance and value indicators for 6G technology. Participants included projects from both Stream D (TrialsNet, FIDAL, TARGET-X, IMAGINE-B5G) and Stream B (ORIGAMI, PRIVATEER, Deterministic6G, Hexa-X-II, SAFE-6G, 6GTandem, PREDICT).
Key highlights of the webinar
The webinar included presentations and discussions on establishing links between Stream B and Stream D projects, methodologies and standardisation of KPIs and KVIs.
Connections and collaborations
The webinar began with presentations from Stream D projects, such as TARGET-X, highlighting the importance of collaboration and sharing results to meet 6G technology requirements. Stream B projects, including ORIGAMI and PRIVATEER, discussed technical challenges and user engagement. An open session provided a platform for participants to exchange views, ask questions, and plan future collaborations.
Methodology and use cases
The workshop began by identifying six families of use cases focused on the three pillars of sustainability: environmental, social, and economic. The completed work included the business model, stakeholder analysis, and 6G readiness. The use case involving cooperative mobile robots highlighted mobility, handovers, latency, reliability and sensing capabilities. Eight barriers to 6G migration were identified, ranging from network coverage to data exposure. Targeted KPIs and technical requirements included network energy efficiency, interoperability, control plane efficiency and trustworthiness, with ongoing efforts to refine and apply these methodologies.
KPI and KVI standardisation
The TMV working group, moderated by Ioanna Mesogiti and Ioannis Patsouras, promoted common KPIs and KVIs across the SNS projects. The segmented work plan included sub-groups that defined 6G KPIs, estimated KVIs, and ensured the reusability of test data. Discussions highlighted the challenges of aligning KPIs across different network segments and the need for collaboration. The current phase involves gathering information on 6G KPI definitions, with a white paper expected to be published by June 2024.
